MEET BEKAH HAWROT WEIGEL

After teaching in the humanities for ten years at the college level, Bekah’s life was hit with an unexpected trauma. While dealing with PTSD and recovery, Bekah was encouraged by her husband, a developer and live-streamer for Freecodecamp, to learn to code. She found that coding helped her manage her PTSD, and she was hooked after starting Flatiron School bootcamp and finding an amazing support system with Moms Can Code. She is the recipient of the Facebook + Flatiron School Breakthrough Scholarship, which she works on when she’s not taking care of her four children. She’s found that her background in teaching literature and writing screenplays has helped her approach to coding by deeply and methodically looking for meaning in the code.

Her goals as she learns new skills are to teach others and to help them feel supported so they can move forward through the impossible. She’s fascinated by blockchain’s impact on the future of technology and has developed a thirty-day Blockchain Challenge for Moms Can: Code. You can find her chronicling her journey on her blog and through social media.
