Most people are confused on how much water they actually need to drink. While a lot of people may disagree on the exact amount they can agree that your needs will differ based on your body type and your activity level. As a general rule, you should drink half your body weight in ounces of water. This just a baseline, of course. If you exercise, spend time in a hot or dry weather, you consume a significant amount of diuretics, or your medications require more water you may need more water. The easiest way is to stick with the baseline and just drink more as you feel thirsty.

It’s not as hard as you think if you break it down into small chunks. Carry a refillable water bottle with you and take slow sips throughout the day. Whatever your preference do not reuse a plastic water bottle. As a general rule, you should be leery of plastic bottles. The companies who create plastic have patients so they are not required to disclose what is actually in the plastic. They then sell the sheets to the bottle manufacturers. Every time a plastic bottle is moved or dropped tiny cracks start to develop causing the chemicals in the plastic to slowly leach into the water. The average bottle of water sits in a warehouse for a year before it’s in a store. This is before you take into account where the actual water comes from. The majority of bottled water is just recycled tap water.

How much do you spend on eating good quality organic food? Our bodies are up to 70% water which means we are what we drink. Do you know what is in the water you are drinking? The best water to drink is naturally clean, pure, and full of minerals. This can come in many forms but the most common forms are well water, spring water, artesian water, mineral water, and alkaline water. All contain essential minerals and nutrients like magnesium, potassium, and sodium. Since they are water soluble they are easily absorbed by your body.

Can I drink too much water?
You can have too much of anything but you will find it challenging to have too much water. In a healthy adult, your kidneys can filter and excrete 15 liters of water a day. So it’s very unlikely to get too much water, provided you don’t drink enormous amounts at one time. For the majority of people too little water is a much larger problem than too much. Drinking 15 liters of water each day would not only take quite some time but it would make you feel uncomfortable. There are really no circumstances where you’d accidentally drink too much water. Drinking more than you need is a safer bet than drinking too little.
Water aids in digestion, makes your skin look healthier, helps you feel fuller so you don’t overeat, keeps your kidneys healthy, and contributes to regular bowel movements. You will lose out on all of those benefits if you don’t stay hydrated. Additionally being dehydrated makes you feel tired and fatigued. The right about of water will help your heart pump your blood more effectively. Water can help your blood transport oxygen and other essential nutrients to your cells. Water also helps energize your muscles and prevents cramping.
Water won’t just help you stay more awake and alert during the day but also reduce fatigue during sports and exercise. While you can get by without enough water you won’t feel good and you will be robbing yourself. So drink up!!
